Superchick - Hero
No one sits with him, he doesn't fit in
But we feel like we do when we make fun of him
Cause you want to belong do you go along?
Cause his pain is the price paid for you to belong
It's not like you hate him or want him to die
But maybe he goes home and thinks suicide
Or he comes back to school with a gun at his side
Any kindness from you might have saved his life
[Tag:]
Heroes are made when you make a choice
[Chorus:]
You could be a hero
Heroes do what's right
You could be a hero
You might save a life
You could be a hero, You could join the fight
For what's right for what's right for what's right
No one talks to her, she feels so alone
She's in too much pain to survive on her own
The hurt she can't handle overflows to a knife
She writes on her arm, wants to give up her life
Each day she goes on is a day that she is brave,
Fighting the lie that giving up is the way,
Each moment of courage her own life she saves
When she throws the pills out a hero is made
[Tag]
[Chorus]
No one talks to him about how he lives
He thinks that the choices he makes are just his
Doesn't know he's a leader with the way he behaves
And others will follow the choices he's made
He lives on the edge, he's old enough to decide
His brother who wants to be him is just nine
He can do what he wants because it's his right
The choices he makes change a nine year old's life
[Chorus]
Little Mikey D. was the one in class who everyday got brutually harassed
This went on for years until he decided that never again would he shed another tear
So he walked through the door, grabbed a four four out of his father's dressing drawer
And said I can't take life no more
And like that life can be lost
But this ain't even about that
All of us just sat back and watched it happen
Thinkin' it's not my responsibility to solve a problem that isn't about me
This is our problem
This is just one of the daily scenarios which we choose to close our eyes
Instead of doing the right thing
If we make a choice and be the voice for those who won't speak up for themselves
How many lives would be saved, changed, rearranged
Now it's our time to pick a side
So don't keep walkin' by
Not wantin' to intervene
Cause you wanna exist and never be saved
So let's wake up and change the world
Our time is now
[Chorus]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This song really meant a lot to me personally. Because a lot of kids don't realize how much harm they do to other kids when they tease or have make-fun of other kids. Especially at my school and many other schools. You should always be the better person and be charitable. There are many other people out there who could actually need you, and who need to talk with you. Don't be afraid. :-)
Just a little note.
see, people think i'm weird when i actually pay attention to the lyrics. i love listening to the lyrics, watching out for a certain message. so, as i can see from your mp3 player thing on the blog, you're really into the christian bands and stuff? i don't ever listen to them, and i think that's really cool. sometimes, i have to admit, the songs can be a little cheesy. but i like this song a lot. i can see what you're saying, in your note at the bottom. i see this song more about hidden secrets, when the girl didn't want or think she needed any help. it's sad how a lot of kids are like that these days, but it's all true.
Very good post, Shan. Superchick seems a bit more intense than I thought...it's not a happy feel song, is it? The lyrics remind me of "Youth of the Nation..." very depressing, but can be very life changing when you realize that things have to change.
Have you heard "Tears of the Saints" by Leeland? Beautiful song.
Hannah,
yeah I try, but I mostly just listen to the beat. :-p Or the music itself. But when I heard this song. I really liked it because I watch all these kids now and see how much they don't realize that they are hurting themselves and each other.
Always bagging on the teachers, and other students when their not looking. I bet you deal with a lot at your school though. I'm just so blessed I have real friends out there who care and don't bag on each other.. hopefully. ;-) Love you Hannah! .. AND SHANNON2! :-D
Damien,
Its not really a happy feel song, but it gives a good messages.. to me anyway. Especially when your around that sort of thing.. a lot. Then I think you can really understand. I just want to be there for all these Kids.. after hearing their stories, and what they've been through.. it makes me want to stay and be there for them. :-)
thanks for commenting!
this is all so...touching! *tear*
I know what you mean Shannon, just being in public school until after 6th grade has affected me alot; I can't even walk by normal kids without thinking they're going to say something degrading. When I was in fourth and fifth grade my "friends" would spit in their food and offer to someone they didn't like. There were some fries that weren't for me, but I took them anyways and it turned out they were spit on. There was this girl even who EVERYbody said was ugly. It's hard for me to know that I just stood there while my friends would stay stuff about her... I know what you mean.
Shannon, I love this! Lyrics can be very powerful and these are really good. In fact, most of the songs that I enjoy , I enjoy because of the lyrics. Nice "post". Haha. :-)
I'm glad you know what I mean.. not a lot of kids do. Its a little different in High School, but they sure do act like 5th graders sometimes. Its just fact that they don't respect anyone, not even themselves. I just think, their lost. Sort of like a maze.
Its just so complicated.
