Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Well since everyone is still commenting on another post and still after I did another one, I guess I have no choice but to do (once again) another post. Alright, what are all of you doing for Thanksgiving? Are you going to your grandparaents house, are you staying at home, are you driving really far to see relatives? Well we are going to my grandparents house. But first TRADITION! Hahaha, we always, ALWAYS watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC. Its been like this even before I was born....I think. Anyways, I have always loved watching it. My favorite of all time is Grover. I'm not sure why, But I always see him there. :-D And now the famous question of all time, What are you thankful for this thanksgiving? I'm thankful for my family, and for wonderful friends, and for our Pope, and having St. Stephens. Theres more but lets just leave it at that for now. Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

~Shannon
P.S. The music in the parade to awesome as well ;-p

The grandfather I never knew

Tribute to
1st Lt. Thomas Joseph Hallgarth

My grandfather's B-47 and crew perished 43 years ago. He would have made a career in the Air Force.

My grandfather trained at Mather AFB in Sacramento, not too far from McClellan AFB, completed Navigator school in Texas and died serving at the base in Lincoln, Nebraska. He rests in Golden Gate National Cemetery. He expected to retire with the military. He probably would have served in Vietnam.

My grandfather was born and baptized at Sacred Heart Church in New Jersey in 1940. He was a good student, especially in math & science, which makes for a good navigator. He was a real Boy Scout who loved big band and rock and roll music and he played the drums. He hung around the Jersey shore and went to the same High School as Jack Nicholson, the actor. My grandfather loved playing in his garage band, The Rockets, and could do a pretty awesome drum solo. They played all over the Jersey Shore and in Ocean Grove. I can only imagine what a clown he was

One of the things most treasured in my grandfather's suitcase is the letter from the Mayor of Comfrey, MN dated March 5, 1963

To the Family of Lt. Hallgarth,

The past Saturday afternoon, March 2, our community held a memorial service at the site of the B-47 crash, the place which has truly affected your lives. I am trying to express our sympathy to you and yours. Words have a futility at such a time as this but it may be said that never has a community been more united in wishing to convey its’ most sincere expression of sympathy to the wives and families of these men who gave their lives in the service of our country.

We, the people of the village of Comfrey, and also the nearby farming area, feel that these men so guided their plane until the last possible moment to avoid crashing into the village, because of this effort, their bravery saved many lives.

I’m certain it could be sincerely stated –“Greater Love Hath no Man – than he who gave his life for his country or his fellow man.” Prayers for you and yours have been heard in churches of all denominations in our community. You, the families of these heroic airmen, have our deepest sympathy –may their devotion to duty help you in these trying times and may God give you strength to carry on for them.

Arthur J. Lilla – Mayor Comfrey

And so to conclude this post I would like to say Happy Birthday to my mother who is 1 year younger today. And I am glad that my mom found all the family she never knew, and all of my grandfather's friends who have stayed in contact with her over these past few years.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Sports, Sports, Sports?

Its the beginning of the NFL!!! Anyone as excited as I am? Some would say im to into it, but I say, I probably am, hahaha.. I cracked myself up. So far I haven't been able to watch much, but I will eventually. For the first time ever I was really into tennis, why? Because the match was between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick, Rodger is swiss, and Andy is American. So Raphael is obviously for Rodger. I was talking smack like I usually do. I was going USA, USA, USA! The problem though is the Swiss guy is by far, and I mean by alot, the best player in the world at tennis. So he (( suprisingly)) killed the American guy to win the USA open. It was fun though watching it on tv, and talking smack every time Andy got a point. Sacremento Monarchs were in the WNBA championship, but they lost. YAY! It just comes to show that Sacremento if full of losers, hahahaha! If you are a true Cowboy fan you wouldn't be happy that Terell Owens is in the Cowboys, but you should be happy that he broke his finger and will be out for a time. He is a awesome player, but he has mocked the Cowboys twice on their field, so do we really want him? NO! I am so angry at myself for picking Kurt Warner as my Quarterback instead of Donavan Mcnabb, big mistake. Oakland A's have been doing pretty good lately, especially Frank Thomas. Go Big Hurt! I think they wil make the playoffs but at the same time im not that sure, because they play the Angels their last seven games. I cant wait until the Summer Olympics, those are always exciting. The USA basketball team better win gold ot they are a disgrace to America. You know who is a big disgrace to America, Justin Gatlin. Fastest runner in the world, but guess what? Steroids!! He accepted to a ban of ten years. That will pretty much end your olympic career. Who else? Floyd Landis, he tested posotive for steroids. He is the Tour De Fance winner. With him though im not so sure if he did steroids. The tests could have been wrong. I do not want Barry Bonds to beat Hank Aaron's home run record, I mean come on. How could the guy not have taken steroids? When he was first in the Major Leagues he was a pretty small guy, now he is ginormous! I think I will end this post now........wait no........now.

RoyalBandit

p.s. GO Cowboys, and Oakland A's!!!
p.s.s. Raiders are terrible!

Crocodile Hunter Dead

The image “http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42047000/jpg/_42047206_irwindaughter_pa.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
Yeah that's right thee one and only crocodile Hunter DEAD by a sting ray. Of all animals a sting ray! I mean I was expecting him to die from a good old crocodilele or snake bite or SOMETHING better then a dumb old little sting ray. I'm not too sad about it, even though my parents were pretty shocked from it. I was just waiting for the day until the news said "Crocodile Hunter Dead from crocodile". BUT NO! A sting ray! Although I feel pretty sad for his wife....I remember when he had his daughter when she was born on Air he put her right up near this alligator and starts talking about the alligatorer blah, blah, blah and lost tons and tons of viewersrs just because of that one mistake. So anyways this post is a contribute to the one and only Crocodilele Hunter Steve Irwin.

Even though y'all probably know by now, I'll spill the beans once again. I got my own blog, but changed the address so it might be difficult to find if you're searching for it. So here it is, new name, new address, but still the same posts, comments, and format: http://theabodeofjeeps.blogspot.com/

More Pictures Of Camp!!!

Charter School-Girls' Camp

I started a Charter Home Study Academy three weeks ago. It has been very interesting with all the classes I have been taking. What I have heard from teachers and other parents is that all the..."punks" go to Charter schools, so that they don't "Disturb the peace at schools". Well I'm glad to say that I only have mmm, maybe 3 so called "Punks" at my school. I have 6 subjects Math, English, Science, Health, Spanish, and a Typing class (mom thought that might be good for the future). I have 3 classes at the Charter School. English with 6 other students, Science with 5 other students, and finally (my favorite) Espanol - Spanish. My teacher for espanol is very nice and does not right away speak English to you. Not like my dad's teacher when he was my age. He said that he had one teacher that spoke spanish all the time it was never ever English so all the students had to learn it to understand him.

I have learned El alfabeto last week and now know how to spell my name in espanol. I have to "Hand in my work" every week and meet with my teacher as well. All of the Teachers there want every student to call them by their first names so I have to call my teacher Diane instead of Mrs. ------.....I don't even know any of the Teachers names (they refuse to tell anyone). They think that it will make the student feel more comfortable around the place. Hahaha, yeah it gets pretty interesting. Now on to a different subject:

Subject: GIRLS' CAMP! Girls' Camp was so much fun. Although I think SOME of the guys thought it a little "boring and really interesting" by what some of their sister's told them. Well, let me tell you, It was on of the best of the best camps we have had. Even though we couldn't swim it was still an awesome time to be there with all the girls and be with Our Lord. We went on 3 hikes. The first was a Shelter Buliding hike the next was a Nature hike/animal room, and then the last I couldn't go on because it was too steep. But it was a Gold panning hike. We did Silk screening, made Alms Jars, and also we also made Out-Door Shrines for Our Lady. The Skit night was soo much fun! The parents did one about the Altar Boys wanting to go and see what we R.M.G's. do every first Saturday.

SO two boys "Ethane" and "Justina" disguise themselves as the "New Girl's" and stay for a meeting and have tea with all the girls. It was very funny what all the parents did. So congrats to them for an awesome skit! Another night we did a Square Dance. That was fun as well. We had Mass every morning at 7am and of course me with my Alarm Clock woke everyone up at 5:30....by ACCIDENT!!! LoL...OH! And of course the Catholic Jeopardy!! And of course Group 2 won! We all did an awesome job! And man, did group 1 do a sweet job as well! Although that's what you get for studying all night when you could be partying with Group 2 till 11pm!!! ;-p Anyway, I think that's it for now....If I missed anything from Girl's Camp please let me know Girls!

Adios!!

From a Dude to a Cool Mom!

One summer's eve (this one, for those who ask), I was checking through the blogs and noticed a new contributor, Mrs. Tammy Maher! So everybody, please give her a warm welcome to the blogs! A nice ROUND of applause would do, or even an alligator clap would suffice! Sorry, but I feel like a kindergartener today! Welcome!
